We have improved our Prometheus Optima humidifier so that it provides more effective and stable humidity of 70%. It is pretreated with our proprietary Special Care Solution and comes in a sealed plastic bag. When you are ready to use it, open the sealed bag.

In addition, its rust-proof stainless steel back cover can be removed to replace the humidification foam. After using Prometheus Optima humidifier for two years or longer, you can purchase a new humidification foam separately and replace the old one if it does not absorb distilled water as effectively as when it was new. This feature allows you to use Prometheus Optima humidifier for many years to come. It is not a disposable but environmentally friendly product.

With new and improved Prometheus Optima humidifier, the cost of maintaining the proper humidity in your humidor is minimal: apply distilled water once a month and Prometheus Special Care Solution (MSRP $4.95) once a year. You can count on Prometheus Optima humidifier to store and age your cigars in the most ideal environment.

Prometheus Hygro 3

Prometheus Hygro 3 is a compact size digital hygrometer with the three functions of time, calendar, and the reading of humidity and temperature. It measures humidity and temperature with an accuracy of plus or minus 3% for humidity and 1 degree for temperature. Prometheus Hygro 3 comes with two complementary alkaline button cell batteries.

CLEANING INSTRUCTION FOR PROMETHEUS HUMIDORS

In order to clean the outside surface of the Prometheus Humidors, please use micro fiber towel and rubbing alcohol. First, remove any dust on your humidor gently with a microfiber towel so that the surface will not get scratched. After this, wet your towel with rubbing alcohol, and wipe the outside surface to remove finger prints or any other stain. You can also clean the metal hinges and plates with your micro fiber towel wet with rubbing alcohol. In order to clean the inside veneer, use fine sandpaper to remove any stain. Please make sure to sand it in the direction of the wood grain. Sanding against the grain leaves marks.

HOW TO HUMIDIFY PROMETHEUS HUMIDORS

1) Your Prometheus Optima Humidifier has been pre-treated with our Prometheus Special Care Solution. Do not open the sealed plastic bag containing the Optima humidifier until it is ready to be used. When you are ready to humidify your humidor, open the sealed plastic bag to take out the Optima humidifier. Place the Optima in a container filled with about two inches (5 centimeters) of distilled water and submerge it in distilled water for about 5 - 10 minutes. This will energize the humidifying foam inside the plastic case and begin the humidifying action. Soaking the Optima in a container is the most effective way to activate your Optima and also minimizes the amount of distilled water used. If you wish, you can also pour distilled water into the slots on the front side of the Optima. However, if possible, please soak the Optima in distilled water, using a container. NOTE: DO NOT APPLY DISTILLED WATER DIRECTLY TO THE INSIDE VENEER OF YOUR HUMIDOR. THIS IS NOT NECESSARY, AND WILL OVERHUMIDIFY YOUR HUMIDOR.

2) Prometheus desktop humidors come with a complementary Prometheus Hygro 3 (digital hygrometer and thermometer). Attach it to the pre-installed magnet inside of the humidor. UER MANUAL OF PROMETHEUS HYRO 3 (PDF)

3) If you are setting up your Prometheus humidor for the first time, monitor the humidity level daily until the humidity level stabilizes at 70%. This will take about five to seven days. Raise the humidity level in your humidor gradually. If you wipe the interior veneer with distilled water in order to increase the humidity rapidly, it will shock the wood of your humidor and can cause your humidor lid to warp.

IMPORTANT : SHOULD I SEASON MY PROMETHEUS HUMIDOR? DO NOT APPLY DISTILLED WATER DIRECTLY TO THE INTERIOR VENEER OF YOUR PROMETHEUS HUMIDOR BY WIPING IT WITH DISTILLED WATER. SOME PEOPLE CALL THIS THE SEASONING OF NEW HUMIDORS. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT ONLY UNNECESSARY FOR PROMETHEUS DESKTOP HUMIDORS BUT ALSO WILL CAUSE OVERHUMIDIFICATION OF YOUR CIGARS AND CAN DAMAGE YOUR HUMIDOR. THE SUDDEN INTERIOR OVERWETNESS WILL SHOCK THE WOOD OF YOUR HUMIDOR AND CAN CAUSE THE LID OF YOUR HUMIDOR TO WARP.

4) Once the humidity reaches 70%, you can put your cigars in the humidor. If you are not going to use your humidor for an extended period of time due to business trip or vacation, put your Prometheus Optima Humidifier in a zip-lock bag and store it inside of your empty humidor so that it retains a minimum level of moisture and does not lose its ability to absorb distilled water effectively for the future usage. If the humidifying foam of your Optima becomes dry because you have not applied distilled water for a long period of time, soak your Optima in distilled water for 24 - 48 hours and apply Prometheus Special Care Solution. This will bring your Optima back to life.

5) If the humidity level rises above 72% and remains there, remove Prometheus Optima humidifier and store it in a zip-lock bag and close the humidor without the Optima inside. Because of the great seal of your Prometheus humidor, it will still maintain the interior humidity and lose it slowly even without the Optima humidifier. Once the interior humidity drops below 70%, then re-attach the Optima in the humidor.

6) Please check the humidity level and your priceless cigar collection in your humidor regularly. Also by opening and closing your humidor time to time to check the humidity level, you will ensure that the inside air does not become stale. The stale air inside of the confined space is not good for your cigars. If the humidity drops below 68%, apply distilled water to Prometheus Optima Humidifier. We recommend applying distilled water to the Optima humidifier once a month.
  
7) Once every six months apply Prometheus Special Care Solution (SCS) to the Optima humidifier by pouring it into the front side of the Optima so that it can continuously generate humidity effectively. Please make sure to soak your Optima in distilled water first before you apply the SCS. You can purchase Prometheus Special Care Solution from our authorized retailers or our website.
